Half of Gen Z favour solar energy, Millennials close at 46%: Survey

A recent survey aimed at assessing awareness of clean energy sources found that approximately 50% of Gen Z respondents favoured solar solutions, closely followed by 46% of Millennials. The survey, conducted between February and March 2024, involved 4,318 respondents across four age groups in five metropolitan cities?Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai?and eight non-metropolitan areas, including Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Gurugram.

The age groups were defined as follows: Gen Z (18-22 years), Millennials (23-38 years), Gen X (39-54 years), and Baby Boomers (55-76 years). The survey highlighted that awareness of alternatives to traditional energy sources is growing among Indians.

Luminous Power Technologies? MD and CEO, Preeti Bajaj, stated that the findings reflected a shift in consumer needs and demand trends in India?s solar energy sector. Bajaj emphasized that the survey provided valuable insights into the changing perceptions, limitations, and opportunities related to solar energy adoption.

Despite the rising awareness, 97% of respondents in India reported not having solar rooftop systems installed in their homes. The survey also revealed varying levels of accessibility to solar energy solutions across different age groups. While 28% of Baby Boomers found solar solutions inaccessible, Millennials faced the least difficulty, with only 21% expressing concerns. Gen X and Gen Z were close behind, with 23% and 25% respectively indicating issues with accessibility.

A common concern among the respondents was the shortage of specialized skills and skilled labor, which many identified as a significant obstacle to a smooth transition to solar energy solutions.
