EVs and green hydrogen to drive India's net-zero goal by 2070

Eminent scientists and thought leaders have asserted that the acceleration in the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), the National Hydrogen Mission, and similar endeavours would drive India's progress towards achieving a net-zero target by 2070.

During an event organized by the Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), it was highlighted by Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the government, that the promotion of EVs through initiatives like the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) and Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) was essential to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions.

Moreover, he underscored the EV Mission, which is spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Science, Technology Innovation and Advisory Council (PM-STIAC), focusing on formulating supportive standards and frameworks for EV adoption.

Sood remarked that substantial investments in green hydrogen production were a crucial aspect of India's National Hydrogen Mission as it progresses towards the net-zero target by 2070.
