Brightnight Commissions 115 MW Hybrid Renewable Projects

BrightNight, a global renewable energy producer, has commissioned the first phase of its 115 MW hybrid renewable power project, Optima Maharashtra, in Dharashiv, southern Maharashtra. This is one of the state’s first co-located wind-solar projects and marks BrightNight’s initial energy delivery to India’s power grid, advancing the country’s mission to decarbonize its energy sector. Spanning approximately 14,000 acres, the project integrates advanced wind and solar technologies supported by BrightNight’s proprietary AI-enabled PowerAlpha® platform. The facility will generate dispatchable clean energy capable of powering about 230,000 homes annually while offsetting approximately 225,000 tons of carbon emissions. Optima Maharashtra is a significant step toward Maharashtra’s goal of sourcing 40% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030. Martin Hermann, CEO, BrightNight, said, “India’s rapid growth, significant energy demand, and favorable policy environment make it a key market for us. Optima Maharashtra will play a pivotal role in advancing the state’s clean energy goals and India’s broader net-zero mission.” BrightNight’s entry into the Asia-Pacific region began with India, which has become a cornerstone of its global expansion. In 2023, Philippines-based ACEN Corporation committed $250 million to support BrightNight’s gigawatt-scale renewable power portfolio in India. The company has already signed a power purchase agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited and secured tenders from NTPC and NHPC for firm and dispatchable renewable energy supply. BrightNight is preparing to begin construction on two large-scale hybrid projects in Rajasthan, which will combine wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems to meet peak power demands. The company is also developing projects in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan, aimed at providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions. Jerome Ortiz, CEO, BrightNight APAC, noted, “Optima Maharashtra aligns perfectly with India’s vision to become a clean-energy-driven economy by 2047. It serves as a model for similar projects across the Asia-Pacific region.” Optima Maharashtra is expected to create around 300 jobs during its development phase and contribute to the regional renewable energy industry’s growth. BrightNight is also collaborating with local communities and stakeholders to ensure efficient resource utilization and long-term benefits for the region. Naveen Khandelwal, CEO, BrightNight India, said, “This project sets a blueprint for future developments that will drive faster and deeper decarbonization. We aim to shape a future where renewable energy underpins India’s economic growth and global leadership.”
