Honeywell Partners with USA BioEnergy for $2.8B Texas SAF Biorefinery

Honeywell has signed an agreement with USA BioEnergy (USABE) to implement its Experion PKS Distributed Control System (DCS) at USABE's $2.8 billion Texas Renewable Fuels Bon Wier biorefinery. This facility aims to convert wood waste into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to meet the growing demand for cleaner fuels in the airline industry.

The biorefinery is set to produce 680 million gallons of SAF under a 20-year offtake agreement with Southwest Airlines. When blended with conventional fuel, the SAF will yield 2.59 billion gallons of net-zero fuel, potentially avoiding 30 million metric tons of CO2 emissions.

Honeywell's Experion® PKS will manage and monitor plant operations to ensure optimal performance. Nick Andrews, CEO of USA BioEnergy, emphasized the strategic decision to use Honeywell's systems for achieving top-notch efficiency and safety standards at the Bon Wier facility.

Currently in the design and engineering phase, the biorefinery is being represented by Citi, with Honeywell also integrating safety and cybersecurity measures to protect the plant's critical assets.

NHAI Uses AI and Drones to Detect 1,000 Encroachments on Highways

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented artificial intelligence (AI) and drone technology to detect approximately 1,000 encroachments on four major national highways. This initiative aims to address obstacles that hinder road construction projects and ensure their timely completion. The survey covered a span of about 360 kilometres, utilising high-frequency drones to capture detailed aerial images of the highways. AI-driven algorithms analysed these images to identify potential encroachments, including parked vehicles, construction materials, and makeshift structures. F..
