Western Railway has launched a redevelopment initiative aimed at modernising 124 railway stations across its network to provide passengers with improved and efficient facilities.
The project encompasses major stations in various divisions, including 30 stations in the Mumbai Central Division, 18 in the Vadodara Division, 19 in the Ratlam Division, 20 in both the Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar Divisions, and 17 stations in the Rajkot Division.
The focus of the redevelopment is to enhance infrastructure, thereby improving passenger experience and streamlining railway operations.
Officials reported that work is progressing swiftly at Dakor, Pratapnagar, and Godhra stations in the Vadodara Division as part of this initiative. The upgrade at Dakor station, designated as an “Amrit Station,” is being implemented with an investment of Rs 60 million. Planned enhancements include modern waiting areas, upgraded restrooms, and drinking water kiosks.
The official mentioned that infrastructure improvements are underway, including the construction of additional foot overbridges, platform expansions, and covered sheds to accommodate the rising passenger traffic more effectively. They also noted that escalators are being installed to enhance accessibility.
They stated that new entry and exit points are being constructed at these stations to manage crowds during peak hours. The redevelopment plans incorporate design elements that reflect local art and culture, such as murals and sculptures, which will add to the aesthetic appeal of the stations.
Furthermore, the official indicated that the project includes the installation of solar panels, waste management systems, and water harvesting facilities as part of an environmentally friendly initiative.
They assured that enhanced CCTV surveillance would provide greater safety and security for passengers.
Given Dakor’s importance as a pilgrimage destination, the official emphasized that the modernized station would significantly enhance visitors’ experiences and promote tourism.
The official concluded by stating that the redevelopment is expected to boost local businesses and create new employment opportunities. They highlighted that improved connectivity and passenger-friendly facilities at Dakor station will particularly benefit those visiting the renowned Ranchhodraiji Temple.
