With increasing investments in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government, following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is planning to boost power generation by approximately 5,255 MW through the construction of 10 new thermal power plants over the next three years.

Investments exceeding 10 trillion are expected to materialize this year, leading to a significant rise in electricity demand within the state.

The Uttar Pradesh government is aiming to make the state self-reliant in power generation.

Additionally, by 2030, the expansion of three existing units in the state will add 5,120 MW of additional power production.

The ten new thermal power stations planned for the state include the following: ? 660 MW Obra C Unit-2 by September 2024 ? 660 MW Jawaharpur Unit-2 by July 2024 ? 561 MW Ghatampur Unit-1 by July 2024 ? 660 MW Panki Unit by July 2024 ? 561 MW Ghatampur Unit-2 by December 2024 ? 561 MW Ghatampur Unit-3 by March 2025 ? 396 MW Khurja STPP Unit-1 and 396 MW Unit-2 by May 2025 ? 400 MW Singrauli Stage Three Unit-1 and 400 MW Unit-2 by August 2027

With the initiation of these power stations, the state will generate an additional 5,255 MW of electricity.

The Yogi government also aims to increase the state's power generation capacity by 5,120 MW by 2030. This will involve expanding the capacity of three existing units: Obra D-2 to 1,600 MW, Anpara E-2 to 1,600 MW, and Meja 2 to 1,920 MW.

Currently, all the thermal power plants in the state produce approximately 6,500 MW of electricity. Additionally, electricity is generated from various sources, including hydro, wind, and solar energy.

However, there remains a significant gap between power consumption and production in the state due to the neglect of power generation in past decades.
