The Union Cabinet has approved Rs 701.25 billion for the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Over the next five years, 62,500 km of rural roads will be constructed, providing fresh connectivity to 25,000 unconnected habitations.
The government’s share will amount to Rs 490.88 billion, with states contributing Rs 210.38 billion. The project aims to create 40 crore human-days of employment, benefiting rural areas with populations over 500 in plains and over 250 in hilly, tribal, and northeastern regions. Planning and project reporting will be handled via the PM Gati Shakti portal.
