The first metro viaduct in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) that will cross a body of water and connect Thane with Kalyan through Bhiwandi has been finished. As part of Phase I of Mumbai Metro Line 5, the final span of the 550-meter-long Kasheli Creek Metro bridge was completed on Sunday. The Metro Line 5 project is being developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
The last section of the Kasheli Creek bridge is now being constructed by the authorities. The bridge's Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan section, which is 15 metres above the river and has 13 piers, will include it. The bridge is being built as part of a 12.811-kilometer section of the Mumbai Metro line, which started construction in May 2021.
The Orange Line 5 provides service to Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan. There are 17 checkpoints along the 24.9-kilometer course. The total cost of the project is 84,160 million.
Mumbai's eastern suburbs, Thane, Bhiwandi, and Kalyan, are well-liked residential neighbourhoods. The stations on the Thane-Kalyan line include Kapurbawdi, Balkum Naka, Kasheli, Kalher, Purna, Anjur Phata, Dhamankar Naka, Bhiwandi, Gopal Nagar, Temghar, Rajnouli Village, Govegaon MIDC, Kongaon, Durgadi Fort, Sahajanand Chowk, and Kalyan Railway Station.
The line was authorised by the MMRDA in 2016. The Maharashtra Cabinet gave their approval a year later.
Parts of the route may go underground to prevent the destruction of some buildings. To connect to Metro Line 4, which travels from Wadala to Kasarvadavli, use the line. From Kalyan to Taloja, it will connect to the envisioned Metro Line 12. The Central Railway will also be connected to it.
