Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the state government will soon unveil a new energy policy with a goal to generate 20,000 MW of green energy as part of its environmental conservation efforts. He also confirmed the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant will complete construction by May 2025, adding 4,000 MW to the state’s power grid.
During a visit to the Yadadri plant with Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Vikramarka flagged off the transport of coal from Ramagundam to the Yadadri station. Unlike previous administrations, the Congress-led government will consult intellectuals and energy experts to draft a comprehensive energy policy, aiming for collective support from the state assembly.
Vikramarka also emphasised the government’s plan to mandate the use of green power by multinational companies setting up operations in Telangana. Additionally, the Deputy CM reviewed the ongoing progress at YTPS, where power from Stage II is already connected to the grid, with the remaining three phases on track for completion by March 2025.
Telangana’s power demand is projected to rise to 22,288 MW by 2028-29 and further to 31,809 MW by 2034-35. The state government is proactively planning to meet this demand by ramping up power generation capacity. (ET)
