Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy instructed officials to prepare a detailed report on metro rail connectivity between Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport and the ‘future city’ being planned on the outskirts of Hyderabad. He also urged officials to expedite metro rail expansion through the old city of Hyderabad.

During a meeting on Musi Riverfront Development and the Hyderabad metro, Reddy emphasised the need to resolve any challenges related to the metro’s expansion, particularly those concerning land acquisition, according to an official statement. He directed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro rail expansion should be ready before the Dussehra festival in October for submission to the central government.

In addition, Reddy asked for data on those living in illegal settlements along lakes, drains, and the Musi River, so that eligible individuals can be provided with double-bedroom houses. He stressed that no eligible person should be left homeless.

To protect lakes from encroachments, he suggested the installation of CCTV cameras at all lakes in the city, with feeds linked to the police Command Control Centre. He further directed that the Full Tank Level and Buffer Zones of lakes and other water bodies within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) be clearly identified.

The state government recently established the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA) to oversee such efforts. Previously, Revanth Reddy had announced the development of a ‘fourth city’, to follow Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad, at Mucharla on the city’s outskirts. This ‘future city’ is set to include hubs for artificial intelligence, health tourism, and sports, all developed on a large scale.
