Suzlon Vice-Chairman Girish Tanti has been appointed as the Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), while Saravanan Manickam, the Country Head (VP India) of Nordex, will serve as Vice Chairman and Secretary, according to an announcement by the industry body. IWTMA’s Annual General Meeting took place on October 25, 2024, at the Chennai Trade Centre, where it was also announced that K Bharathy, CEO of Windar Renewable Energy, would assume the role of Treasurer.
In addressing global climate goals, Tanti highlighted that tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030 is essential to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees.
India has set a goal to source 50 per cent of its energy from renewables, targeting 100 GW from wind power by 2030, which requires an increase of 53 GW from the current 47 GW. Tanti noted that bolstering India’s manufacturing ecosystem is essential to support the country’s net-zero goals and establish it as a global supply chain hub, emphasising the importance of continuous government support through policies, incentives, and initiatives to unlock the industry’s full potential.
