South Central Railway Seeks Bids for 2.7 MW Rooftop Solar Systems

01 Jun 2024

The South Central Railway (SCR) has announced an invitation for bids to install 2.7 MW of rooftop solar systems across its various facilities. This initiative is part of SCR?s broader strategy to enhance its renewable energy capacity and reduce its carbon footprint.

The proposed solar systems will be installed on the rooftops of SCR?s buildings, including railway stations, workshops, and administrative offices. By utilising rooftop space for solar power generation, SCR aims to optimise its infrastructure for sustainable energy production. The project underscores the railway's commitment to integrating green energy solutions within its operations.

Interested bidders are required to provide comprehensive solutions encompassing the design, supply, installation, and maintenance of the solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The project will be executed under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA), ensuring consistent and reliable energy supply for SCR?s needs.

The adoption of rooftop solar systems is expected to significantly reduce SCR?s electricity expenses and contribute to its sustainability goals. By generating clean energy on-site, SCR can lower its reliance on grid electricity and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with India's national renewable energy targets.

This initiative by SCR is in line with Indian Railways? mission to become a net-zero carbon emitter by 2030. By expanding its renewable energy portfolio, SCR is playing a crucial role in this ambitious environmental goal.

The deadline for bid submissions is set for the end of the month, with project implementation scheduled to begin shortly thereafter. The successful deployment of these rooftop solar systems will mark a significant step forward in SCR?s journey towards sustainable and eco-friendly operations.
