Urban infrastructure in the state is set for a significant enhancement as Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced a capital outlay of Rs 581.95 billion, dedicated to improving the productivity and efficiency of infrastructural facilities.

The budget also includes an allocation of Rs 10 billion for the first phase of the Bhubaneswar Metro project. The previous BJD government had earmarked a similar amount for the project in its interim budget announced in February. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs 62.56 billion.

Additionally, the government has allocated Rs 6.06 billion under the Unnati scheme, aimed at establishing more smart cities across the state, equipped with digital infrastructure. "It also aims to bolster urban resilience to climate change and other challenges, ensuring sustainable development for future generations," Majhi said in his budget speech.

The government also emphasised the completion of the pending Capital Region Ring Road Project and the state's coastal highway project. Majhi affirmed that necessary assistance will be sought from the Centre for the successful completion of these projects.

"Once these projects are complete, traffic congestion in urban centers will be reduced, and new industrial clusters will emerge, ushering in a new era of development and substantial job creation," Majhi added.
