RRTS corridors to link different towns of NCR

01 Dec 2021

National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) composed a ‘Functional Plan on Transport for National Capital Region(NCR)-2032’ which suggested eight Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors to join different significant towns of NCR with high-speed rail-based commuter transit system like Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurgaon-Rewari-Alwar, Delhi-Faridabad-Ballabgarh-Palwal, Delhi-Sonipat-Panipat, Delhi-Bahadurgarh-Rohtak, Ghaziabad-Khurja, Delhi-Shahdara-Baraut and Ghaziabad-Hapur.

Out of these, the Task Force formed by the then Planning Commission prioritised three corridors called Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, Delhi-Gurugram-Rewari-Alwar and Delhi-Panipat. From the above, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor has been sanctioned, and the development work is underway.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) after the Feasibility Study has been obtained from National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) for Delhi-Gurugram-SNB Urban Complex RRTS Corridor in December 2018 and SNB Urban Complex to Sotanala RRTS Corridor in June last year; which are part of Delhi-Gurugram-Rewari-Alwar RRTS Project. The DPR of the Delhi-Panipat corridor was obtained from NCRTC in June last year. Approval of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) with a financial commitment on DPRs of Delhi-Gurugram-SNB RRTS corridor and Delhi-Panipat RRTS corridor has not been obtained.

The RRTS projects are cost-intensive projects which need extensive inter-ministerial consultations, and their permission depends on the feasibility of projects and availability of resources. The allocation or release of funds and project construction is taken up once the project is sanctioned.
