The Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a state-of-the-art facility for depositing house tax, water, and sewer tax to promote cashless transactions, allowing taxpayers in Sangam City to deposit house tax via QR code. With this new system, residents can conveniently pay their house tax from home and receive an additional rebate of 2.5% on their tax payments.
Currently, depositors receive a discount of 10%, meaning building owners will now enjoy a total discount of 12.5%. Chief Tax Assessment Officer of PMC, PK Dwivedi, explained that the introduction of the QR code facility aims to facilitate cashless transactions and provide further incentives for timely tax payments. He noted that the goal is to encourage building owners to regularly deposit their house tax, water, and sewer tax.
Approximately 120,000 building owners from the previous 80 wards, who consistently pay these taxes, will benefit from this initiative. The proposal for the additional discount is expected to be approved during a meeting of the Municipal Corporation. House tax is currently collected from building properties in 80 out of 100 wards within the city limits, with 232,000 building properties identified in these wards.
New house tax rates have been established for 20 newly expanded wards, with a survey identifying over 172,000 building properties in that region. A scheme has been devised to collect house tax from around 54,000 of these properties.
Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani stated that efforts will be made to offer an additional discount of 2 to 2.5% to building owners who consistently pay their taxes, with this proposal set to be approved through the House.
