Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Pune Metro Rail project and also revealed the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue on the premises of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
After the inauguration, Modi took a ride from Garware college to the Anandnagar metro stations. Before boarding the metro train, he unveiled a plaque connecting to the project, took an analysis of the whole project from a senior official of Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) and went to the booking counter to take a ticket to board the train from the Garware college station. PM Modi paid the metro fare by QR code, a mobile-based mode and purchased the ticket. At the platform, he pressed the button that made the signal green, followed by waving the green flag for the inaugural train from Garware College station and PCMC station. French Ambassador Shri Emmanuel Lenain, AFD India Director Mr Bruno Bosle boarded the inaugural run from Garware college metro station and alighted at Anand Nagar metro station. During the trip, the PM interacted with the students, including the divyang students. The metro of Pune has two corridors. Vanaz to Ramwadi 15.7 km and PCMC to Swargate 11.4 km along with 14 stations.The stations were opened for the public after inauguration by the PM. The minimum metro fare is Rs 10, and the maximum is Rs 20 (return fare Rs 30). There are services after every 30 minutes from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm of the day. Many people visited stations out of excitement and to be part of this historical moment. Women, children, students, Senior citizens, college students were taking pictures and videos to keep memories. Pune metro gallery “Dream Coming True'' is a star attraction for selfies. On March 6, 2022, services began on both inaugural sections from 3:00 pm. Till 8:30 pm on Garware station to Vanaz station route, 14,251 passengers travelled, and PCMC to Swargate route 4,414 passengers travelled. During this visit, PM Modi also launched100 e-buses, an e-bus depot built at Baner in Pune and R K Laxman Art Gallery.
