Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corp uses GIS to assess property tax

The civic body, in collaboration with Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Limited, has begun a GIS-based survey to assess property taxes within its jurisdiction.

Property Tax in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) official told the media that the survey, which is based on a Geographical Information System (GIS), would ensure tax collection transparency and plug revenue leaks.

PCMC commissioner Rajesh Patil told the media that they conducted a door-to-door property assessment survey as well as GIS-based mapping to improve revenue collection.

PCMC additional commissioner Vikas Dhakane informed that this was the civic body's first attempt at GIS mapping for property assessment.

The goal, according to Smita Zagade, deputy commissioner of the PCMC, was to identify properties that were not included in the tax net.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation of Pune is the civic body that governs the Pimpri Chinchwad neighbourhood in Pune's northwestern city limits.

It has a population of 1.72 million people and governs an area of 181 km sq.

The Municipal Commissioner, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer appointed by the Maharashtra government, has executive authority over the PCMC.
