Parts of Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar to form new metro city

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced plans to create a new metropolitan city by merging parts of Indore with neighbouring districts Ujjain, Dewas, and Dhar. Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Kabuli Chana Traders Association in Indore, Yadav highlighted the close connection between Indore and Ujjain and emphasized the bright future of Madhya Pradesh in terms of commerce and trade.

Yadav, who has been touring major cities to promote Madhya Pradesh as a prime business destination, underscored the success of the recent Industry Conclave organised by the state government in Coimbatore and Bengaluru. He noted that the event opened new avenues for investment in the state, particularly in the food processing sector, and encouraged young entrepreneurs to establish food processing units.

The chief minister affirmed the state government's commitment to supporting industrialists and businessmen, resolving their issues, and fostering an environment conducive to business growth. He stressed the importance of collective participation in making India a superpower and pointed out the significant role of kabuli chana (chickpeas) in the state's economy. Indore, he noted, exports kabuli chana to over 60 countries, which is a source of pride for the region.

Yadav also addressed concerns raised by the Kabuli Chana Traders Association, including the removal of stock limits on kabuli chana, a move that he said would benefit both farmers and traders. He emphasized the state's efforts to promote chickpea cultivation, which requires less irrigation and yields more than wheat, and mentioned that the central government has also decided to lift stock limits on kabuli chana.

The association urged the chief minister to reduce the 1.2% mandi tax levied by the Madhya Pradesh government, relocate the Chawni 'anaj mandi' to the outskirts to alleviate traffic congestion, and promote the export of kabuli chana to boost the pulses industry. Madhya Pradesh is a leading hub for kabuli chana cultivation and export, and the association highlighted the need for competitive measures, such as reducing mandi tax, to keep local industries thriving.

Rajul Sarda, Secretary, Kabuli Chana Traders Association, noted that many dal mills in Madhya Pradesh have relocated to other states due to high operating costs. He urged the state government to reduce the mandi tax, as other states have abolished it to support their businesses, resulting in growth for their local industries. According to the association, India exports over 1 lakh tonnes of kabuli chana annually.
