NPG Reviews Six Infrastructure Projects Under PM GatiShakti

The Network Planning Group (NPG) under the PM GatiShakti initiative held its 77th meeting, chaired by Additional Secretary of DPIIT, Rajeev Singh Thakur, to review six critical infrastructure projects.

Gujarat Railway Project: A greenfield project involving the construction of a 36.35 km Broad Gauge Double Line from Gothangam to Hazira was discussed. The project aims to enhance cargo movement, reduce road traffic, and minimize environmental impact by shifting cargo from road to rail.

Assam Highway Upgrade: The strategic upgrade of NH-17 to a 4-lane highway, spanning 44.56 km between Chirakuta and Tulungia, was reviewed. This project will improve connectivity between Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya, and key infrastructures like the Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Jogighopa and Rupsi and Guwahati Airports.

Maharashtra Logistics Park: Development of a Multi-Modal Logistics Park in Nashik over 109.97 acres was discussed. This greenfield project will integrate road and rail transport to improve logistics efficiency and reduce costs, handling an estimated 3.11 million metric tonnes of cargo annually from 2029 onwards.

Bihar Civil Enclave: The development of a new civil enclave at Bihta Airfield near Patna was evaluated. The project includes a new terminal to handle 5 million passengers annually and a 10-bay apron for A-321 aircraft, aimed at addressing capacity constraints at Patna Airport.

West Bengal Airport Expansion: Expansion plans for Bagdogra Airport in Darjeeling were highlighted. The project includes a new terminal capable of handling 10 million passengers annually and a 10-aircraft apron, enhancing connectivity for the North-eastern region of India.

Andaman & Nicobar Transshipment Port: The development of an international Container Transshipment Port at Galathea Bay with a project cost of Rs 44,313 crore was discussed. This initiative aims to leverage the strategic location and deeper waters of the bay, enhancing India?s maritime trade competitiveness.

These projects are expected to significantly boost regional connectivity, logistics, and economic growth across the country.
