Noida International Airport completes calibration of landing systems

01 Oct 2024

Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) has announced the completion of the calibration for the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) at the upcoming airport in Jewar, Greater Noida. This milestone is crucial for the airport's operational readiness ahead of its opening on April 17, 2025. The calibration process, which began on October 10 with a Beechcraft King Air 360ER from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and concluded on October 14, confirms that the runway and necessary equipment meet safety standards.

Arun Vir Singh, CEO of NIAL, stated that the ILS assists pilots in landing safely, especially in poor visibility conditions, by providing both horizontal and vertical guidance. The successful calibration is essential for the airport’s functionality, minimizing flight delays and ensuring smooth operations during adverse weather.

In preparation for the airport’s launch, NIAL has begun daily landing and take-off tests to validate safety systems. The first commercial flight is scheduled for April 17, 2025, with ongoing discussions about international and domestic flight routes. NIAL has urged the concessionaire to expedite preparations to meet the launch deadline. Full crew flight tests by airlines IndiGo and Akasa are planned for November 30, ahead of the official opening.
