NEC Corporation India has won the mandate to carry out the Thiruvananthapuram Smart City project. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the project alongside the CM of Kerala, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan.
The master system integrator Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), NEC Corporation India (NEC India), aims to complete the project in 2022. Thiruvananthapuram is among the 100 Smart cities selected in the third round of the smart cities challenge under the Smart City Mission of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). Thiruvananthapuram has incorporated a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited (SCTL), for planning, designing, implementing, coordinating and monitoring the Smart City projects in the city. NEC will help SCTL in creating the ICCC to bring various departments together to work as a single unit. It will also help to utilise the information technology (IT) to modernise functions of city operations, including traffic management, traffic control, traffic law enforcement, security and safety, e-governance, municipal operations, and information dissemination for a well-informed, connected, smart and smooth operations for the citizens. NEC’s ICCC software will be integrated with the contact centre, mobile application, state & city helpline numbers, and e-Governance solutions like property tax and healthcare. NEC will work towards integrating all the smart components at the central Command and Control Centre with integrated operations and dashboards. This software will work for various departments under the Smart City ambit. Other features include a one-city mobile application, solar scada, e-Governance application support, integrated transit management, Smart Parking Management Solution, an Environmental Sensor monitoring system and Smart Water Management. NEC has successfully implemented large and complex information and communications technology (ICT) projects as the master system integrator in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune, Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalyan Dombivali and Gurugram.
