The work on the final phase of the much-anticipated Airoli-Katai Naka project in Mumbai is scheduled to commence this month. According to reports, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) intends to select a contractor for constructing the 6.72-kilometre elevated corridor between Shil and Katai this month. The project is expected to offer a direct route between Navi Mumbai and the Kalyan-Dombivli region, thereby cutting travel time to just 30 minutes.
MMRDA is set to appoint a contractor for the final phase of the project soon. This phase will feature a 6.72-kilometre elevated corridor running parallel to the Diva-Panvel rail line and is projected to be finished by 2027. The initial two phases of the project are anticipated to be completed by the end of 2024. Once completed, the project will establish a direct link between Navi Mumbai and the Kalyan-Dombivli region, which currently requires commuters to take a detour through Mahape or Thane. The completion of this project will shorten the distance between these areas to 7 km and significantly improve travel efficiency.
