In a significant step towards enhancing green spaces in Mumbai, the project agreement for the 'Mumbai Central Public Park' was signed in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The agreement, formalized at the CM?s official residence, Varsha Bungalow, includes officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and representatives from M/s. Royal Western India Turf Club Limited.
The ambitious project, which spans approximately 300 acres, combines 120 acres from the Mahalaxmi Racecourse and 175 acres from the Mumbai Coastal Road. The initiative aims to transform the city?s landscape, drawing inspiration from renowned parks in New York and London.
According to an official statement, the BMC has been actively working to reclaim the 211-acre Mahalaxmi Racecourse land after the previous lease expired. Out of this, 91 acres have been re-leased to the Turf Club until 2053, while the remaining 120 acres will be developed into the park.
The new park will increase Mumbai's green cover from 3,917 acres to 4,212 acres, marking a significant contribution to environmental conservation. The project is expected to benefit both residents and tourists, offering accessible green spaces and boosting the city's ecological footprint.
With the project now cleared, the BMC will expedite the development process, turning CM Eknath Shinde's vision into reality. The 'Mumbai Central Public Park' is set to become a vital green lung for the bustling metropolis, enhancing the quality of life and promoting sustainability.
