Maharashtra renames Pune airport to 'Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj'

The Maharashtra government approved a proposal on Monday to rename Pune's international airport as 'Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Airport.' This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, with plans to forward the proposal to the Centre for final approval.

Chief Minister Shinde announced this decision in a post on X, where he also provided updates on various schemes and benefits for the public. Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, shared the news on X as well, indicating that the initial step towards renaming the airport had been taken that day. He noted that the proposal for renaming the airport as 'Jagadguru Santshrestha Tukaram Maharaj Pune International Airport' had been approved by the state government during the cabinet meeting, and it would now be sent to the central government for further processing.

Mohol mentioned that the proposal was expected to be approved in the upcoming cabinet meeting, citing that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had approved a similar proposal in Pune just two days prior. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had previously expressed his support for the renaming, assuring that the central government would back the initiative. Mohol confirmed that the first step towards renaming the airport had been successfully completed.
