As a first step towards introducing the metro railway service in Aurangabad city, Maharashtra Metro Railway Corporation (better known as Maha Metro) presented a detailed project report (DPR) with an estimated budget of Rs 68 billion.
Maha Metro is a company jointly owned by the Maharashtra government and the government of India. If the project materialises, Aurangabad will join the limited number of cities in the country to have the metro rail facility.
The DPR was presented to Union minister of state for finance Bhagwat Karad, Aurangabad Municipal Corporation’s administrator Abhijit Choudhary, who is also the CEO of the Aurangabad Smart Cities Development Corporation (ASCDCL), and other people’s representatives including MP Imtiaz Jaleel.
Authorities said the DPR proposes to connect MIDC Waluj to Shendra MIDC, a distance of 25km.
