In a significant move toward national development, Abhishek Lodha, Managing Director and CEO, Lodha Group, along with his family, has pledged to transfer a stake worth Rs 20,000 crore from Macrotech Developers, their listed entity, to the Lodha Philanthropy Foundation (LPF). This foundation, a non-profit organisation, is dedicated to using its income and assets solely for social and national causes.
Inspired by Tata’s Legacy
Speaking about the family's decision, Abhishek Lodha said the inspiration came from the Tata family’s century-old tradition of philanthropy. “About 100 years ago, the Tata family gave a major part of their shareholding in their enterprise to the Tata Trusts. The huge impact of this gift on India and the good work by the Tata Trusts has been a major inspiration for me,” he said.
Lodha emphasised the family's belief in nation-building and expressed hope that LPF's contributions would align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047. “The Lodha Philanthropy Foundation represents the dreams of all 1.5 billion Indians and from today onwards, all of India will be a partner in, and benefit from, the growth and success of Lodha Group and Macrotech Developers. In the spirit of Jan Bhaagidari (public participation), this is our humble contribution to nation building,” he added.
Focus Areas of Lodha Philanthropy Foundation
Established in 2013, the Lodha Philanthropy Foundation focuses on four main areas: Women, children, the environment and Indian culture. The foundation has been scaling its activities in recent years and now operates various social and educational programs.
Among its prominent initiatives is Lodha Unnati, a programme aimed at increasing female participation in India’s workforce by working closely with corporates. Another initiative, the Institute of Applied Mathematics (IAM), modeled after the Fields Institute in Toronto, seeks to boost high-quality research in mathematics by attracting top talents from both India and abroad.
Additionally, the Lodha Genius Programme is focused on providing support to exceptionally bright children across India, regardless of their income background. The Justice Gumanmal Lodha Scholars Programme honors the legacy of Chief Justice Guman Mal Lodha, offering scholarships to students from humble backgrounds who aspire to rise to prominence in their chosen fields.
Net Zero and Educational Programmes
In line with global sustainability goals, the Foundation has also launched the Lodha-RMI Net Zero Accelerator, aimed at transitioning India’s built environment—buildings and infrastructure—toward net-zero carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative reflects Lodha Group's commitment to a greener future.
Furthermore, the foundation manages the Chandresh Lodha Memorial Schools, which provide high-quality education to nearly 10,000 students, with a strong emphasis on character development. The Sitaben Shah Temples Foundation supports the construction and maintenance of temples, helping to preserve and promote India’s rich cultural and religious heritage among younger generations.
