Krishna Park Extension Station Set to Open by Month-End

01 Aug 2024

The much-anticipated Krishna Park Extension station, part of the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg Metro corridor in Phase IV, is expected to open to the public by the end of August. A 2.5-km section, including one underground station, was inspected by the commissioner of Delhi Metro Railway Safety.

Vikas Kumar, managing director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), confirmed, ?The inspection of the new section has been done. We will incorporate all recommendations suggested and hope to open it by August-end.?

This underground station will extend the Magenta Line (Line 8: Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden), greatly benefiting nearby colonies by providing easier access without the need to travel to the Janakpuri West station. The station features platform screen doors, which enhance crowd management and passenger safety. A DMRC official explained, "PSDs are installed primarily as a crowd management feature as these gates help passengers queue properly near the designated door areas."

Additionally, the station is equipped with a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC)-compliant automated fare collection (AFC) system. The new section will continue to operate driverless, as the Phase IV corridors are designed to be unmanned. Notably, all 29 trains on the Magenta Line are now fully unmanned after the removal of drivers' cabins, with attendants present at intervals.

The entire corridor from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram is projected to be completed by 2026, featuring 22 stations, including eight interchange stations. DMRC is currently constructing 65 km of three priority corridors, including Janakpuri West to RK Ashram, Majlis Park to Maujpur, and Aerocity to Tughlaqabad. The 12.3-km Pink Line corridor from Majlis Park to Maujpur is expected to be ready by 2025, while the Golden Line from Aerocity to Tughlaqabad is set for completion by 2026. Various sections of these priority corridors will be opened in phases leading up to 2026.

In March, the Union cabinet approved two more corridors under Phase IV: Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Inderlok to Indraprastha, further extending the Golden and Green Lines.
