Karnataka expedites rooftop solar installations.

01 May 2024

Karnataka has unveiled new guidelines to expedite rooftop solar installations, aiming to enhance the state?s solar capacity. The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) will serve as the nodal agency, ensuring a streamlined and efficient process. This initiative involves the implementation of a unified online platform for the submission, processing, and monitoring of applications, which will be operational for all Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) in the state.

A significant feature of these guidelines is the establishment of a penalty system to address delays in the synchronization of rooftop solar systems with the grid. This measure is expected to motivate faster approvals and connections, thus reducing the wait time for consumers looking to adopt solar energy.

The guidelines also include daily updates on the status of applications, enhancing transparency and customer satisfaction. Standardised procedures across all ESCOMs will further simplify the process for both consumers and service providers, promoting consistency and efficiency.

As of December 2023, Karnataka?s rooftop solar capacity stood at 526 MW. With these new guidelines, the state aims to significantly boost this figure, contributing to its overall renewable energy targets and promoting sustainable energy solutions.

By addressing key bottlenecks and ensuring a more user-friendly approach, Karnataka's new guidelines represent a critical step towards increasing the adoption of rooftop solar systems. This initiative not only supports the state's green energy goals but also empowers consumers to participate actively in the renewable energy movement.
