Western Railway has announced the inclusion of Kandivali and Dahisar railway stations in the recently launched Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), an initiative aimed at the continuous development of stations with a long-term vision.
Other stations already part of the ABSS include Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Malad, Jogeshwari Coaching Terminal, and Palghar. The scheme involves creating and implementing Master Plans in phases to enhance station amenities and infrastructure.
Planned improvements will focus on better station access, upgraded circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lifts/escalators, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, and kiosks for local products through the 'One Station One Product' initiative. Additionally, there will be enhancements in passenger information systems, Executive Lounges, business meeting spaces, and landscaping.
The ABSS also prioritizes station building enhancements, integration with city infrastructure, multimodal connectivity, amenities for Divyangjans, and environmentally sustainable solutions. There are also plans to create city centers at stations.
So far, 1,324 stations have been selected for the ABSS based on proposals from Zonal Railways and the needs of major cities and towns.
