Construction work of Noida international airport, also known as Jewar International Airport has started in Gautam Budh Nagar's Jewar region.

The project would come upon 1,334 hectares in the upcoming four years under phase 1 of the airport project.

The Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the special purpose vehicle made for developing the airport, confirmed the development.

According to the media reports, phase 1 of the airport would have a capacity to assist 12 million passengers annually.

The company started levelling the field that was agricultural land before. The Noida International Airport Limited (Nial) is the nodal agency to execute the mega project.

Arun Vir Singh, the chief executive officer (CEO), told the media that phase 1 of the project would be ready in 36 months, and it would begin work with one runway. Afterwards, more runways would be constructed as well. In every phase, the airport would extend to assist 70 million passengers by the end of phase 4, depending upon passenger increase and traffic.

In phase 1, there would be two runways. By the end of phase 4, the airport would have five runways and more than 5,000 hectares of land.

The CEO revealed that YIAPL acquired a Rs 3,725 crore loan from the State Bank of India (SBI) at the beginning of this month.

An official foundation stone setting ceremony would also take place at the airport site soon, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath would likely attend it.

Many officials told the media that the land for phase 1 is acquired from villages: Kishorpur, Dayanatpur and Banwaribas, Ranhera, Rohi, and Parohi in the Jewar sub-division of GB Nagar.

After completion, the airport would be the largest in India and would be third of the National Capital Region after the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) and Ghaziabad’s Hindon airport.
