Indradhanush Gas, ONGC sign three hook-up agreements
01 Jul 2023
Indradhanush Gas (IGGL) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) have recently entered into three hook-up agreements to connect ONGC's natural gas fields to the North East Gas Grid (NEGG) for the transportation of natural gas. An official statement released on Thursday announced that the natural gas will be transported from ONGC's Jorhat, Silchar, and Tripura Assets to the consumers.
IGGL is currently in the process of constructing a 1,656 km long natural gas pipeline that will connect the capital cities and demand centers of all eight northeastern states. These newly signed hook-up agreements will enable the connection of ONGC's natural gas fields to IGGL's pipeline, facilitating the efficient evacuation of natural gas, according to IGGL Director Sanjay Kumar.
He further explained that these strategic agreements aim to enhance the connectivity between ONGC fields and the North East Gas Grid, which will benefit both companies. By providing domestic gas to customers, this development will contribute to the overall growth of the country's economy. Kumar emphasised that leveraging the NEGG infrastructure will fully utilise the hydrocarbon potential of the northeastern region, aligning with the government's Hydrocarbon Vision 2030.
IGGL is actively engaged in discussions with other natural gas producing companies to establish connections between their gas fields and the NEGG.
As a result of these hook-up agreements, a total of 185,000 Standard Cubic Meters per Day (SCMD) of natural gas will be withdrawn from ONGC's Jorhat Asset, 82,500 SCMD from the Silchar asset, and 700,000 SCMD from the Tripura asset through the NEGG.
The NEGG project, undertaken by IGGL, has achieved a significant physical progress of 75.52 per cent to date, as stated in the release.
