01 Jul 2023

Indradhanush Gas Grid (IGGL) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) announced the signing of three hook-up agreements to establish connections between ONGC's Natural Gas fields and the North East Gas Grid. These connections will enable the transportation of natural gas from ONGC's assets in Jorhat, Silchar, and Tripura to the consumers.

It was stated by Sanjay Kumar, Director of IGGL and ED Marketing of ONGC, that the hook-up agreements with IGGL are a strategic measure aimed at improving the connectivity of ONGC fields with the Northeast Gas Grid. This collaboration will be beneficial for both companies, as it will provide domestic gas to customers and contribute to the overall economy of the country. By utilising the infrastructure of the North East Gas Grid, the hydrocarbon potential of North East India can be fully utilized to develop a gas-based economy, aligning with the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 of the Indian Government.

Dr Ajit Kumar Thakur, CEO of IGGL, stated that both companies will explore additional opportunities to connect more gas fields of ONGC with the North East Gas Grid in the future. IGGL is also in contact with other Natural Gas producing companies to establish connections between their gas fields and the North East Gas Grid. The Hook Up Agreements will enable the withdrawal of 1,85,000 Standard Cubic Meters per Day (SCMD) of Natural Gas from Jorhat Asset, 82,500 SCMD from Silchar Asset, and 7,00,000 SCMD from the Tripura Asset of ONGC through the North East Gas Grid. The North East Gas Grid project, implemented by IGGL, has achieved 75.52% physical progress as of the current date.
