Hootagalli CMC to expand waste treatment plant to 10 acres

01 Jun 2024

To handle the growing quantity of trash produced on the city's periphery, the Hootagalli City Municipal Council (CMC) has suggested growing its solid waste treatment facility to ten acres. The existing facility, which occupies two acres, processes twenty-eight tonnes of solid garbage per day. However, the CMC is finding it difficult to manage the growing amount of rubbish because of the city's periphery's fast expansion.
In order to tackle this problem, the CMC has proposed to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) that 10 acres of land be allotted. This area will be the location of the new facility, which is expected to cost Rs 0.08 billion.
Every day, the CMC picks up trash from private home layouts and places like Hootagalli, Koorgalli, Belavadi, and Hinakal. Additionally, it collects solid garbage from industrial regions such as Belavadi, Koorgalli, Hootagalli, and Hebbal. The current waste treatment facility, which is close to Koorgalli, has been finding it difficult to handle the growing volume of trash and building debris produced in these regions.
According to Hootagalli CMC commissioner Chandrashekhar, the municipal organisation has chosen to extend the solid waste treatment facility by an additional 10 acres and has submitted a petition for land allocation to KIADB. In addition to treating dry and wet trash independently, the new facility will have a section dedicated to getting rid of building debris.
The CMC has been taking part in the Swachh Survekshan survey, which is run by the Union ministry of urban development, for the past three years since it was upgraded by the government in 2021. The commissioner anticipates that the CMC's standing in the survey will rise as a result of the building of a new facility to manage the growing amount of trash.
According to Mahesh, a Hinakal resident, the expansion of the waste treatment plant area aids in the efficient disposal of solid waste because the CMC region is growing quickly.
