Honeywell and Jiutai partner to produce 100,000 tonne of SAF

01 Aug 2024

Honeywell revealed that Inner Mongolia Jiutai Group has chosen its UOP eFining technology to produce 100,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) annually from eMethanol, marking Honeywell's first global commercial eFining license. The eFining technology, which transforms eMethanol into low-carbon jet fuel, is anticipated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 88% compared to traditional jet fuel.

William Yu, President of Honeywell China, noted that this collaboration represents the first commercial license for SAF production using Honeywell's eFining technology and underscores their dedication to the sustainable development of the global aviation industry. Cui Lianguo, Chairman of Jiutai Group, emphasised the partnership's significance in the group's energy transformation and its contribution to the aviation sector's sustainability.

Honeywell's technology will be deployed at Jiutai's methanol-to-olefins facility, converting it into a SAF production plant that will utilise local wind resources for efficient production. Honeywell's SAF technologies are currently licensed at over 50 sites worldwide, with the aim of substantially increasing SAF production capacity.
