The Western Ring Road (PRR-WEST) will be the name of the 65.45-kilometer-long road from Shivare to Urse in the Pune District. 83 villages will be traversed by the access-controlled Pune Ring Road, which is located entirely within the Pune district. For 97.80 km, the road will be between 90 and 110 metres wide with three lanes on either side, however for the 39 km of the Ring Road, there will be four lanes on each side. Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad traffic congestion should be reduced by the proposed ring road.
The road will have Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) and noise barriers on the section that runs through urban areas, and it will be constructed for a top speed of 120 kmph. Five places will have roadside amenities. On the Ring Road, there will be 14 interchanges, 8 pedestrian underpasses, 6 smaller vehicular underpasses, 13 light vehicle underpasses, 37 vehicular underpasses, 28 vehicular overpasses, 3 railway overbridges, 16 major bridges, 38 minor bridges, 230 culverts, 10 tunnels, and 18 flyovers.
The project is expected to cost Rs 158.57 billion and take 30 months to complete from the time work begins, which is probably by the end of this year. It is suggested that the Ring Road construction be divided into nine packages. The state government has moreover already set aside Rs 110 billion for the purchase of land needed for the Ring Road project.
