GCZMA Demands Demolition of Illegal Anjuna Structures

01 Sep 2024

The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has mandated the demolition of several illegal constructions in Anjuna, including a swimming pool, eight structures, two sheds, and a compound wall.

These violations occurred in a no-development zone under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) guidelines.

The authority emphasized that all areas within 0-200m or 200-500m of CRZ, regardless of land type, are subject to these regulations. Activist Kashinath Shetye raised concerns that the structures were being used as a hotel without necessary approvals.

The GCZMA dismissed the violator's claims regarding the site's topography, stating that attempts to seek post-facto approvals after prior demolition orders were issued would not be entertained.

The authority noted a history of delays and attempts to frustrate its decisions, reinforcing its commitment to environmental regulations and the restoration of the land to its original state.
