Eight design and engineering firms have bid to prepare three detailed feasibility reports (DFR) for extending the 118.9-km-long Chennai Metro Phase 2 project by 93 kilometres to connect Kilambakkam, Parandur Airport, and Avadi.
Three corridors are currently being built as part of the city's Phase 2 project by Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL): Line-3 (Madhavaram-Siruseri), Line-4 (Lighthouse-Poonamallee), and Line-5 (47 km).
CMRL had issued a tender for the feasibility contract (3 packages) for the line in September 2022, with a 120-day completion deadline. Technical bids were instead opened at the end of October.
