To control dust pollution and guarantee disposal of construction and demolition waste following the rules, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has kicked off services for ‘on-demand collection of C&D waste’.
It has joined hands with the concessionaire maintaining the C&D waste facility at Shastri Park to lift and carry the C&D waste from the building sites to this facility. As per an EMDC official, it is an on-call system wherein the concessionaire operating the C&D facility arranges for staff, vehicles for carrying C&D waste from under-construction buildings after charging nominal rates. Lifting and transportation will be completed at night, payment will be made by the beneficiary in advance, and the collected waste will be measured or weighed before entering the facility. The civic organisation has stated the number of the concessionaire on its website. As soon as the concessionaire gets the call from generators (residents), it will take all details, covering tentative quantity, location and pictures. After physical confirmation, the concessionaire can guarantee which vehicle can be used for lifting. After collecting malba and taking payments, the service call will be closed. After weighment at the C&D facility, a slip will be provided to the generator. They believe that the system will assist in reviewing illegal dumping. Besides operating a helpline, the concessionaire has been urged to advertise the plant regularly. The plant will not be available for government or institutional complexes or bulk generators.
