The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) inaugurated the partially finished Shahdara Jheel project.
According to the media, the levelling of the ground is still ongoing. The work on the lake, including building a sewage treatment boundary and plant, is finished. However, construction on the amphitheatre, party arena, footpath, swings, plantation, and parking area is still incomplete. An executive of EDMC revealed that the second phase of the project is still under construction, and the Centre has already received the proposal for the third phase to allocate funds. The executive informed that for Phase-II, under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, they received Rs 14.2 crore. They used the money to lay the geosynthetic layer and waterproof the lake, building its boundary wall, seating area, party lawn, amphitheatre, etc. For the Phase-III of the project, EDMC has requested Rs 7-8 crore to finish leftover work and complete the construction of shafts, swings, air conditioning, eating booths, and beautification work. The total area of the park is 30.74 acres. Moreover, the official informed that after getting the funds, a concessionaire would run and manage every facility like boating, food court, parking, booking of party lawns, meeting hall, open amphitheatre, and maintenance and security as well.
