Curtorim Residents Urge PWD to Audit Water Supply Infrastructure

01 Sep 2024

A group of Curtorim residents submitted a memorandum to the executive engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), requesting an audit of the water distribution system in their constituency.

In their request, they emphasized the need for an assessment of the current condition of the infrastructure, identification of the root causes behind frequent breakdowns in the water supply, and recommendations for long-term solutions to ensure a consistent and reliable water supply for all residents of Curtorim.

Roque Mascarenhas, a social worker from Curtorim who led the group, highlighted that the water supply in Curtorim is unreliable due to frequent breakdowns in the water supply pipelines, causing inconvenience to the residents. He noted that despite numerous complaints and temporary fixes, the problem persists, suggesting that there could be underlying issues within the water distribution system that need a comprehensive address.

Mascarenhas also mentioned that the water pipelines, which were installed years ago, have surpassed their utility period, leading to their demand for an audit. The memorandum underscored that frequent interruptions in the water supply are adversely affecting daily lives and posing potential health hazards.
