Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai announced the construction of nearly 1.8 million houses in the next three years under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana strives at ensuring a roof over the head for each family in the nation, for which nearly 18 lakh homes would be constructed in Karnataka in the next three years under the scheme, he said. Bommai also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Ayushman Bharat Yojana, PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi), Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) for the welfare of the marginalised sections. He said that the PM rolled out these initiatives so that the working class and farmers of the country could also lead a life of dignity and self-respect. In the last eight years, he has worked tirelessly for the social and economic development of the marginalised sections, he said. The chief minister told the media that the welfare programmes should be drafted with a bottom-to-top approach. However, the funding system should percolate from the top to the bottom. He said that the PM has changed the welfare programme funding system via the Direct Benefit Transfer system. No Prime Minister in the past could show the political bravery to supply tap water to each household. PM Modi not only declared the project but also assured that all the states are involved in its execution, he said. Image Source
