Coal ministry rejects Chhattisgarh government’s proposal

01 Oct 2022

Union coal minister Pralhad Joshi has stated that the Centre will not accept the Chhattisgarh government's proposal to cancel the mines allotted to Rajasthan because the allocation was done through a process. In July, the Chhattisgarh government passed a resolution in the state assembly urging the Centre to cancel all coal blocks in the Hasdeo Arand forest area due to anti-mining protests. Rajasthan has been allocated three coal blocks by the Centre: Parsa East-Kanta Basan-II (PEKB), Parsa, and Kente Extension. Parsa, Parsa East Kete Basan (PEKB), PEKB Extension, Gidhmuri Paturia, Madanpur South, and Chotia are the five coal blocks in the Hasdeo Arand area. The first phase of mining in the PEKB coal block was completed this month, and coal is no longer supplied to Rajasthan from here. For over a decade, tribals and activists have been protesting mining activities in the Hasdeo Arand forest area.
