Agartala: Solid waste collection with 60 new e-vehicles added

The 60 e-vehicles were purchased under the Urban Infrastructure Development scheme and financed by the National Housing Bank (NHB). To enhance urban cleanliness and waste management in Agartala, one of the country?s 100 Smart Cities, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) recently launched these e-vehicles for solid waste collection. After the inauguration of the Solid Waste Collection vehicles at Barjala in West Tripura district, AMC mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder addressed the media. He stated that the AMC's primary goal is to keep the city clean and free from pollution by employing all forms of modern technology. Majumder urged the public to support the initiative and expressed the need for patience.

Majumder further explained that the 60 newly acquired vehicles for garbage collection are battery-operated, eliminating the use of diesel or petrol. He provided details on the vehicles, noting that 51 four-wheeler hopper electric tippers were bought at Rs 12,99,600 each, and eight tipper trucks were procured at Rs 17,93,100 each.

According to Majumder, the Centre funded 90 percent of the total cost, while the state contributed the remaining 10 percent. The inauguration ceremony was attended by AMC deputy mayor Monika Das Datta, AMC commissioner Shailesh Yadav, and other AMC councillors.
