Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has revealed that 70% of the state's village panchayats lack proper waste management systems. He emphasized the government's plan to monitor these panchayats closely to improve waste segregation and management.
In a review meeting on solid waste management (SWM), Sawant announced that house and garbage taxes will be collected from all residents, including renters, to tackle the growing waste issue. He also stated that fines would be imposed on private and commercial establishments that fail to segregate waste properly.
Sawant instructed the panchayats to use funds from the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM) and the 15th Finance Commission to improve cleanliness. He also announced that the government would transfer the management of tourism-related toilets to the panchayats for better administration.
