In a bid to promote green transportation, Union Minister Manohar Lal has launched CESL's "EV as a Service" programme, which aims to introduce 5,000 electric vehicles (EVs) into the government sector. This initiative is part of the Indian government's broader push to reduce carbon emissions and shift towards more sustainable mobility solutions.
The programme will provide a platform for government departments to transition their fleets to electric vehicles, fostering a cleaner, greener environment. Under the initiative, the government sector will have access to EVs along with the necessary charging infrastructure. The move is expected to drive further adoption of EV technology across various sectors, contributing significantly to India’s clean energy goals.
CESL (Convergence Energy Services Limited), a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), is at the forefront of this initiative, providing a comprehensive solution that includes both electric vehicles and charging stations. The project is expected to set a strong example for the private sector, encouraging the adoption of EVs in commercial and personal use as well.
The government has been actively promoting electric vehicles through various policies, incentives, and infrastructure development, aligning with its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. The move is also in line with India’s ambitious targets to cut down greenhouse gas emissions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
