Design studios raise funds for Covid Relief in India

“We are waking up every day to SOS messages searching for oxygen cylinders, ambulances, and hospital beds,” says Soft-Geometry founders Utharaa Zacharias and Palaash Chaudhary. “Our own parents, families, and friends are trying to stay another day without a grocery run”, they added.

As India is battling the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, there is hardly any family who hasn’t been affected by this virus. The healthcare system is overloaded and the country is in a crisis. The demand for oxygen cylinders, ambulances and medicines have skyrocketed and at this time designers have come together to gather funds and help bring back their nation on its feet.

The Indian design studio, known for its furniture and home objects themed around the idea of softness, has created a dedicated page on its website with nine vetted fundraisers along with organizations doing critically important work—some that are tasked to build oxygen plants; some that procure and deliver oxygen cylinders and refills; some that are distributing food and essential kits, ambulance services, and so on. The studio is also doing a raffle for one of its beautiful lamps.

Many members of the design world, studios and designers, have banded together to help and have created raffles of their own to help raise funds for India. Some of them include Soft Geometry, Tantuvi, Block Shop Textiles, Sunday Monday, Andrea Gentl, Ace and Jig, Seek Collective, Christine Chitnis, and Cold Picnic.
