Thiruvananthapuram Adopts Copenhagen Waste Model Under CITIIS 2.0

Thiruvananthapuram’s CITIIS 2.0 (City Investments To Innovate, Integrate and Sustain) programme is set to launch, promoting climate-focused reforms and circular economy-based waste management. The Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (SCTL) and the City Corporation are finalising a Detailed Project Report (DPR) aimed at generating Rs 3.1 million per month by converting waste into revenue-generating resources. Inspired by Copenhagen’s circular economy model, the project seeks to achieve zero-garbage status through 100% scientific waste handling, with plans to adapt and replicate key aspects of the Danish approach.
