Hathijan Secures Sewage Treatment Plant to Combat River Pollution

In a bid to address the critical issue of river pollution, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a Rs 12.35 crore sewage treatment project in Hathijan. Currently, sewage treatment plants at Vinzol are overwhelmed, with a combined capacity of 205 MLD receiving 300 MLD of sewage, leading to untreated waste flowing into the Sabarmati River.

The new project will build a large sewage lagoon in Hathijan, designed to treat an additional 102 MLD of sewage. It will include a pumping station and rising line to facilitate the treatment process. The project is aimed at reducing pollution and improving the quality of water in the Sabarmati River.

AMC officials have confirmed that a plot has already been identified for the facility, and the standing committee has granted approval for the project.
