One of the key objectives of the project is to develop a modern and scientific solid waste treatment and disposal facility. The government’s Swachh Bharat Mission has envisioned waste management, hygiene, and sanitation across the nation under a collaborative framework of multiple stakeholders.
JNPT is the biggest container handling port in India. On the environment conservation front, the port has undertaken several green initiatives, which include harnessing solar power, sewage treatment plants for recycling of wastewater, e-RTGCs, and also projects like the development of an eco-park, marine conservancy, and comprehensive plantation. The port has also switched to LED lights at the port area to lower energy consumption and decrease carbon footprint.
