In a major step towards enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Srinagar, the riverfront from Badshah Bridge to Zero Bridge is set to undergo significant redevelopment under the Smart City project, according to officials. General Manager Smart City Project, Anuj Malhotra told Rising Kashmir that after the successful transformation of one section of the riverfront, the project aims to extend these improvements across the entire riverfront. The vision is to make the area more captivating for residents and visitors alike, he stated. “We are striving to make the city more beautiful and attractive,” Malhotra added.
The redevelopment work is being carried out by the Irrigation and Flood Control department of Kashmir. Malhotra shared that the comprehensive plan will not only focus on aesthetic enhancements but also provide improved accessibility and a better experience for visitors. The project’s end goal is to complete the bridge and riverfront redevelopment in the near future, creating a more scenic and visitor-friendly environment along the riverside.
The existing river portion transformed area has already become a popular spot, drawing large crowds to enjoy the riverfront’s beauty and capture selfies against its scenic backdrop. “It has become one of the most sought-after selfie points in the city,” Malhotra remarked, highlighting the popularity of the initial redeveloped sections among the public.
With this enthusiasm in mind, officials are focused on further beautifying the stretch from Badshah Bridge to Zero Bridge, ensuring the riverfront lives up to its potential as an urban attraction.
The project is part of broader efforts under the Smart City initiative, aimed at modernizing Srinagar while preserving its natural and cultural charm.
